Japan and other parts of the world. A highlight of the viewing stone collection is
called La Bella (“The Beauty”). This stone was found in Giacopiane’s Lake in
the Ligurian Alps of northwest Italy, and its gray color is typical of rocks in that
area. That the viewing stone so closely resembles the topography of the area
where it is from enhances its inherent beauty. This gift from Luciana Queirolo
Garbini in 2001 underscores the museum’s international stature.
Viewing stones like this one from Lingbi Province in China are included in the museum’s exhibits,
augmented by Asian plant material, decorative objects and other elements.
